The NCIC Climbing Wall was established in September 2016, featuring seven climbing lines up to 8m high with two overhangs, functioning as a top rope facility only. Designed to serve the college students and the broader Coleraine community, it opens to club members every Wednesday evening.
North Coast Climbers, initially an informal assembly at the NCIC wall, transformed into a formal club affiliated with Mountaineering Ireland in December 2018, encompassing members from beginners to experts. The group climbs at the NCIC wall and ventures to the Foyle Arena, Boulderworld, and into the outdoors. They aspire to expand outdoor activities, enhance member training, and participate in broader climbing competitions and trips.
Our climbing club provides adult members with regular access to the NCIC climbing wall and organises climbing meets in the local area. We support a youth climbing club, an advanced youth climbing team, and opportunities for skill-sharing to help climbers expand their horizons indoors and outdoors.
Additionally, membership includes affiliation with Mountaineering Ireland, ensuring insurance coverage for club activities. We also encourage and support our members embarking on mountain training qualifications, such as the Climbing Wall Instructor and the Rock Climbing Instructor award.
